Time: May 22nd, 2019
Place: Vellore
Company: Colleagues
Highlights: Well, I was one among the four chosen to travel to Vellore college to hire B.Tech interns to our company. So, we left at 6 am, had breakfast at Adyar Anand Bhavan after Hosur at about 8 am, and reached Vellore college by 10 am. But we had to wait until another party arranged. By the time we started the evaluations, it was almost noon.
The interview process itself was quite an eye-opener not just for me but for all in the panel. The students could not even answer basic IT questions even though they had done seemingly complex projects! In fact before the interview, we were wondering what to ask since our technical know-how has become rusty but when we were in front of students, all that 'brushing-up' was not even needed!
Anyways, the interviews went on and on. In the middle, we took a break for lunch. We came back and continued until 7 pm! Finally with great reluctance, we chose a few candidates only because we had openings! We left at about 8 pm, stopped near Ambur for a 'biryani' dinner- which wasn't great anyways. By the time I reached home, it was 12:30 midnight.
Last time I was in Vellore was in 2017! As an experience, I liked this 'official trip'. But on a serious note, I was expecting college grads to be more challenging than what we found...
